Truth is, for many people, the cell phone has become a "must have," with the traditional landline phone now reduced to "who cares?" status. During the same time, cell phone numbers have exploded. The growth in cell numbers is most notable among the youth of the country--youth that will be your main customer base in only a few years! [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] So what's your plan? If you have only a business plan for how to move forward, you're in for some unpleasant times. Business plans get you from today to tomorrow by telling you how to proceed. What happens if the future your business plan is working toward ends up much different than you thought? You need multiple options for what might happen, and common items that will be reasonable to pursue regardless of what the future holds. Enter the strategic plan. Too Low on the List For many companies, strategic planning falls in the category of things you know you should do but don't quite want to do. The obstacles to strategic planning are that it requires you to figure out what the future holds, understand future technologies when today's are already difficult enough, or bet your company on a guess. None of these need be mastered to arrive at a strategic plan. In talking about strategic planning, it might be best to start with what it is not. First, it is not doing nothing. For many companies, strategic planning is a task that just never seems to get done. Years ago not much would change during a five-year period that would have major impact on a telephone company. That cheap abercrombie argument cannot be made today. We know that the traditional telephone network has competition, that companies are expected to offer new services, and that technology will expand the set of alternatives going forward. No strategic plan today will lead to no company tomorrow. Business Plans Are Different Most companies have some type of business plan, some more formal than others. I think you have some idea of what your company's plans are for the next few months. Are you installing a new switch, adding capacity to your outside plant, or hiring staff to help with the increased workload? You most likely have some idea of what the revenue and cost projections are. How will you pay for the projects your company will undertake over the next few months? Have you decided to become a competitive local exchange carrier and expand your territory? Some type of study probably was done, and now a business plan is in place that looks at projected costs and revenues. The better you business plan, the stronger the urge to think it is your strategic plan. Not so! Your business plan talks about how you will accomplish your goals for the company. Your strategic plan talks about what those goals should be. Business plans look at today and move forward. They need to be grounded in the reality of your current situation. Your company may have decided to change, but making the change requires that you start from where you are. Strategic plans look at the future and move backward. Where do you need to be five years fr Other articles: http://www.gwtour.com/JETRO-to-launch-Web-site-for-p.html http://www.ccncct.com/Blog/View/?1207 浏览(3700) | 回复(11)
